Sounding Out Arthritis #3: Enthesitis of the Achilles Tendon

Video

(VIDEO) First, a live demonstration of ultrasound probe placement to examine the Achilles tendon for enthesitis. Then, a narrated series of still slides and films showing normal and abnormal views from the ultrasound monitor.

The third video in our series on ultrasound in rheumatology focuses again on the ankle region, this time examining it for signs of enthesitis.

The Achilles tendon is a critical area for the development of enthesitis, says Paul DeMarco MD during his introduction. He demonstrates how to assess the region's architecture by sweeping through two perpendicular planes, followed by a series of actual patient films demonstrating and comparing normal and abnormal features.

Dr. DeMarco who is a partner at Arthritis and Rheumatism Associates in Wheaton MD and Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine at Georgetown University School of Medicine.
