"At the moment, just publishing the research and presenting it at meetings and writing guidelines doesn't seem to be enough," says Dr. Rachelle Buchbinder.

"At the moment, just publishing the research and presenting it at meetings and writing guidelines doesn't seem to be enough," said Rachelle Buchbinder in an interview with Rheumatology Network. Dr. Buchbinder, a rheumatologist with Monash University in Australia, is the author of a new review in Nature Reviews Rheumatology in which she writes more must be done to bridge the gap between research and clinical care. She points to barriers along every step of the translational research pathway, from limited funding for rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, gout and back pain, to systemic factors that keep doctors from instituting the latest findings in their practices.
