Canadian researchers looked at the safety of short-term use in patients with hypertension, heart failure, or chronic kidney disease.
Bouck and colleagues in Canada discovered that nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are widely prescribed to patients considered to be at high risk for NSAID-related complications, such as those with hypertension, heart failure, or chronic kidney disease. However, the investigators found no increase in short-term safety-related outcomes.1 Scroll through the slides for the details of their study and the take-home points for clinicians.
NSAID, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug.
Complications of NSAID use include hypertension, edema, impaired renal function, and myocardial infarction.
NSAID, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug.
