Again, the guidelines are unanimous: Patients with symptomatic knee OA and a BMI higher than 25 will feel better if they lose weight. This is supported by two high-quality randomized trials (according to OARSI) The classic study found that every pound of weight lost reduces load on the knee by 4 pounds. But exactly what do you ordinarily do to encourage this weight loss, beyond merely imparting these facts?
