In this sideshow, we highlight recent advances in polymyalgia rheumatica and giant cell arteris, two conditions that often go hand-in-hand. In one study we feature, researchers report that cardiovascular risk factors may increase the risk of polymyalgia rheumatica and giant cell arteritis. Other reports include:
- Patients with polymyalgia rheumatica (PMR) are often prescribed long-term glucocorticoid therapy, despite the risk of osteoporosis.
- Infection risk high in PMR and GCA cases associated with oral glucocorticoids.
- Common biomarkers in PMR and GCA.
- Vitamin D may play a role in autoimmune conditions.
