ACR 22 Convergence Preview, with Zsuzsanna McMahan, MD

Article

Each year, the American College of Rheumatology (ACR) hosts an annual meeting that serves as one of the foremost opportunities for advancement and collaboration within the field of rheumatology. This year’s meeting, aptly named ACR 2022 Convergence, represents the first opportunity for many within the field to converge, collaborate, and celebrate the advances within the field together since 2019.

Hosted virtually and in-person in Philadelphia, PA from November 10-14, 2022, ACR 2022 Convergence is expected to feature staples of previous in-person meetings, such as the late-breaking sessions scheduled for the final day of the meeting, as well as new offerings, including Ignite Talks and Viewpoints. First-time offerings, Ignite Talks are 5-minute poster presentations of selected abstracts scheduled to be held in person and livestreamed while View Points focus around a 5-10-minutes TED talk-style presentation from a leader in rheumatology on 1 of 21 preselected topics that will be held in Community Hubs at the meeting.

“ACR Convergence 2022 will have a great deal to offer practicing rheumatologists, scientists, educators, rheumatology professionals, and trainees,” said Annual Meeting Planning Committee Chair Sharon L. Kolasinski, MD, FACR, a professor of clinical medicine at the University of Pennsylvania, in a statement from the ACR. “While we appreciate that not everyone will have the opportunity to join in person, all of the members of the rheumatology community across the globe should attend. Whether they attend in person or virtually, or decide to sample some offerings virtually between sessions on-site, attendees will have a broad menu of topics and presentation formats to choose from.”

With an interest in learning more about the upcoming meeting and the planning process, our editorial team sat down with Annual Meeting Planning Committee member Zsuzsanna McMahan, MD, MHS, an associate professor of medicine at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, and that conversation is the subject of this special ACR 22 Convergence preview edition Overdrive Podcast.
